Known for their quick and simple coffee, bagels, donuts and snacks, Tim Horton’s has once again decided to unleash some new drinks in efforts to appeal to their European coffee drinking consumers. They have already tried to win over the Starbucks crowd with their “Smoothies”, “Ice Cappuccinos”, and their flavored coffees. The demand is there, as specialty European coffees such as espressos, have gained a huge increase in popularity over the last year. Tim Horton’s has a huge advantage over Starbucks in the number of Canadian locations and the variety of non-beverage items. But the coffee retailer wants more, Tim Horton’s is ready to offer specialty coffees such like the ones at Starbucks, but at a fraction of the cost!
Lattes and cappuccinos will be sold for $1.99(small) to $2.69(x-large) compared at Starbucks $2.90 to $4.05 prices. I recently tried the new drink at a location in downtown Toronto. After trying Tim Horton’s smoothies, I was quite skeptical as I found those to be absolutely horrible. Surprisingly, the latte was smooth and tasty, and the right price. My only complaint is that they are made with 2% milk, whereas at Starbucks I opt for the non-fat milk. I think Tim Horton’s should stick to what it does best, and leave the European specialty coffees for the specialty coffee retailers such as Starbucks and Second Cup, as both serve a very different purpose. Tim Horton’s is great if you are on the go, and want a quick cup of java, but if you can spare the time (and the money), Starbucks or Second Cup can fill your desire for a special treat.

Really appreciate this post. It’s hard to sort the good from the bad sometimes, but I think you’ve nailed it!
